How the Facebook Ad Mockup Works

Three steps, about thirty seconds, nothing to install.

1

Add your details

Business name, trade, city and the offer you want to lead with. Add a photo of a finished job and your logo if you have them handy.

2

Pick the hook

The tool writes the primary text, the headline and the line on the image from a hook bank built for your trade. Don't like the first one? Try another.

3

Download both files

The feed image at 4:5 and the Stories image at 9:16, clean, plus the copy to paste into Ads Manager. Upload them and the ad is ready to run.

What You Get From the Mockup

An ad you can upload today, not a picture of one.

Both shapes Meta asks for

A 4:5 image for the feed and a 9:16 image for Stories and Reels, exported at 1080 x 1350 and 1080 x 1920. No bars, no cropped offer.

Copy that fits the fields

Primary text inside 150 characters and a headline inside 27, with the count shown next to each line so nothing gets cut behind See more.

Hooks written for your trade

167 hooks across 53 trades, each one built on a problem the homeowner already has: the leaning fence, the fogged window, the breaker that keeps tripping.

Your offer on the image

"$500 Off Your New Fence" in big type over "Get A Free Estimate", or $1,000 off, 50% off, or your own words. Add your phone, star rating, years in the trade or a line of your own and they go on the image too.

Your photos stay on your phone

The ad draws in your browser. Your job photo and logo are never uploaded to us or to anyone else.

Ready for Ads Manager

The files are the creative on its own, without the fake feed around it, so you upload them straight into a campaign.

The Contractor Ad Hook Bank

53 trades, 167 hooks. Written for this tool, not lifted off anybody's ad account.

A Facebook ad lives or dies on its first line. Everything after it is detail.

Across eight trades and $139,167 of managed spend, Bit House Digital's cost per lead ran from $29.45 to $119.18, 2,635 leads in total. The distance between the cheap end and the expensive end is mostly the offer and the creative, and the creative starts with the hook.

So the hooks in this tool don't open with your company name or how long you've been in business. They open with something the homeowner already knows about their own house. Here's the first hook for every trade, plus the headline that runs under the photo.

Every tradeThree or four hooks per trade in the builder above, each one wrapped around your business name, your city and the offer you pick.

Why these and not "Call the experts today"

Because a homeowner scrolling past your ad is not shopping for a contractor. They're looking at their phone on the couch.

The ad has to remind them of a problem they've been walking past for months. That's what every line in the bank does: it names the thing they already noticed and stopped noticing.

Want to see what this looks like in ads that actually ran? We keep real examples by trade: fence ad examples, deck ad examples, window replacement ad examples and remodeling ad examples.

Facebook Ad Specs: What the Mockup Is Made Of

Six parts, and the numbers Meta's own ad specs recommend for each.

Open any ad in your feed and it's the same six pieces, stacked the same way. Knowing what each one is called saves you an hour of confusion the first time you open Ads Manager.

PartWhat it isWhat Meta recommends
Primary textThe sentences above the photo. Gets cut off behind a See more link.50 to 150 characters
ImageThe photo or card itself. The only part a thumb notices at speed.4:5, 1440 x 1800
HeadlineBold line in the bar under the photo, next to the button.27 characters
ButtonGet Quote, Book Now, Learn More. Picked from Meta's list, not typed.Fixed options
FileWhat you upload.JPG or PNG, under 30MB
Stories frameFull screen, top to bottom. Different crop, same ad.9:16
MinimumsAt least 600 pixels wide, 750 pixels tall at 4:5, with a 3% tolerance on the ratio.

The two mistakes that cost you the most

Writing past the cut. Primary text keeps running past 150 characters, it just hides behind See more. Nobody taps See more. Put your whole point in the first line and treat the rest as a bonus.

Using one square image everywhere. A 1:1 photo in a 9:16 Stories slot leaves bars, and your offer ends up sitting under the button where it can't be read. That's why this tool draws both shapes instead of one.

In Stories the profile row sits across the top and the button sits across the bottom, so anything you put there gets covered. Keep the words in the middle of the frame.

What a mockup can and cannot tell you

It settles the format. Does the photo read at phone size, does the hook fit on one line, is the offer visible before the thumb moves on.

What it can't tell you is what a lead will cost. That comes from the offer, the footage, the page the click lands on and how fast somebody calls the lead back. If the ads bring back at least 2 to 3 times what you spend on them, you can run them profitably. Most of our clients do at least 5x.

Facebook Ad Mockup and Preview Questions

Inside Ads Manager you can only preview an ad after you have built the campaign, picked the audience and uploaded the creative, and the preview belongs to that draft. A mockup gets you the same picture earlier. Put in your business name, your trade, your city and a photo of a finished job on this page and you get the ad drawn in the Facebook feed and in Stories in a few seconds, with the copy already written. Use it to settle the photo and the hook before anyone builds a campaign.
This one. Most mockup generators are built for ecommerce brands: they hand you an empty frame and you still have to write the ad, which is the hard part. This tool carries hook lines and headlines written for 53 home improvement trades, from fence and roofing to HVAC and plumbing, then builds them around your business name, your city and the offer you pick. The preview is free and watermarked. The clean files are free too, behind your name, email and phone.
Start with a free estimate, because every homeowner expects one and it costs you nothing to promise. Then add something with a number on it: $500 off, $1,000 off, or a percentage off a specific part of the job. A dollar figure on the image gives the thumb a reason to stop, and it gives the homeowner a reason to call this month instead of next spring. Pick the offer here and the tool writes it out in full, like $500 Off Your New Fence over a Get A Free Estimate button, and puts it into the primary text.
For the Facebook feed, Meta's own ad specs recommend a 4:5 image at 1440 x 1800 pixels, saved as JPG or PNG, 30MB or less, at least 600 pixels wide. For Stories and Reels the frame is 9:16, so the image fills a whole phone screen. This tool exports the feed mockup at 4:5 and the Stories mockup at 9:16, so both land inside Meta's recommendations.
Meta's ad specs recommend 50 to 150 characters of primary text and a headline of 27 characters for a Facebook feed image ad. Longer primary text still runs, it just gets cut off behind a See more link, and the part after the cut is the part nobody reads. The copy this tool writes stays inside both numbers and the character count is shown next to each line so you can check it yourself.
Yes, and you should. Add a JPG or PNG of a finished job and the tool puts the hook and the offer on top of it; add your logo and it sits in the page spot where Facebook shows your profile picture. Both files are read by your browser and drawn on the screen. They are never uploaded to this site or anywhere else, which is also why the tool works with no account.
No, and it would be dishonest to pretend otherwise. A mockup settles the format: whether your photo reads at phone size, whether the hook fits, whether the offer is visible before anyone scrolls past. What a lead costs comes from the offer, the footage, the landing page and the follow-up. Across eight trades and $139,167 of managed spend, Bit House Digital's cost per lead ran from $29.45 to $119.18, 2,635 leads in total, and the gap between those two ends is mostly creative and offer, not image size.
One of your own finished jobs, shot on a phone, in daylight, from far enough back that the whole job is in the frame. Real work beats a stock photo with your logo on it, and it keeps beating it for months. Avoid the staged image every contractor in your market is already running. If you have a before shot of the same job, that pair usually outruns either photo on its own.
